Collection Green
Both of the series « Buddha’s Eye » and « Green » have their genesis in the ancient rock formations of Hornby island, off of the west coast of Canada. These formations have a viscerally powerful presence and their evocative shapes captivated me . It felt as though I was being transported from the visual dimension into an intuitive, spiritual world.
I returned to the rocks a year later in the winter months. They were this time cloaked in intense green. The relationship between the gravitas of the rocks and the exuberance of the colour was intriguing. This made me reflect on what « green » means to me as a photographer.
As a colour, green is located at the midpoint of the colour spectrum. It lies precisely half-way between the heating and expanding colours of red/orange/yellow and the contracting electric colours of blue/indigo/violet. Green is restful, cool and fresh. It cannot be sharply focussed by the eye, and does not lend itself to angularity. The human eye recognizes more variations in the colour green than in any other colour. Green is deeply meditative and its fleeting nature-almost by definition- compels one to live in the moment.
